General Questions

What is PrayForAPrisoner?

PrayForAPrisoner is a Christian charity that provides daily prayer resources, Bibles, and spiritual support for those affected by the prison system—including prisoners, their families, victims of crime, and the chaplains and staff who serve them. We believe everyone deserves access to hope and spiritual nourishment.

Is PrayForAPrisoner a registered charity?

We are in the process of registering with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Until registration is complete, we operate as an unincorporated charitable organisation. All donations are used directly for our charitable purposes.

Are your resources free?

Yes! All our prayer resources, daily offices, and online materials are completely free. We never charge prisoners or their families. Our work is funded entirely by donations from generous supporters who share our vision.

What denomination are you?

We are rooted in the historic Christian tradition, drawing particularly from the Daily Office of the Church of England. However, our resources are designed to be accessible and meaningful to Christians of all backgrounds. We focus on the shared prayers, scriptures, and traditions that unite believers across denominations.

For Prisoners

How can I get a Bible in prison?

Speak to your prison chaplain. They can request Bibles from us at no cost. If your prison doesn't have a chaplain available, write to us at our postal address (available on the contact page) and we'll do our best to help.

Can I access prayer resources without internet?

Yes! We provide printable prayer resources that chaplains can distribute. Ask your chaplain about printed copies of the Daily Office. We also have booklets designed specifically for prison use.

I'm struggling and need someone to talk to

We're so sorry you're going through a difficult time. Please reach out to your prison chaplain—they are there to listen and support you, regardless of your faith background.

If you're in crisis, please speak to a prison officer immediately or contact the Samaritans. Most prisons have a Listener scheme where trained prisoners can provide confidential support.

For Families

How can I pray with my loved one in prison?

Our Daily Office resources are designed exactly for this. You and your loved one can agree to pray the same prayers at the same time each day—Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, or Night Prayer. Even though you're apart, you're united in prayer. Let them know which prayer time you'll be observing, and use our resources together.

Can you send resources to my family member in prison?

Due to prison regulations, we typically work through chaplains rather than sending items directly to prisoners. However, you can ask the chaplain at your loved one's prison to request resources from us. Contact us if you need help connecting with the chaplaincy.

I'm struggling to cope with a family member's imprisonment

You're not alone. Having a loved one in prison is incredibly difficult. Organisations like Prison Advice and Care Trust (PACT) and Prisoners' Families Helpline offer practical support and a listening ear.

Our prayer resources can also bring comfort during this time. Many families find that having a daily prayer rhythm helps them feel connected to their loved one and to God.

For Chaplains

How can I request Bibles for my prison?

Email us at chaplains@prayforaprisoner.org.uk with your name, prison, and the number of Bibles needed. We'll respond within 48 hours and arrange delivery subject to availability and funding.

Can I print your Daily Office resources?

Absolutely! Our resources are designed to be printed. We provide print-optimised PDFs that work well on standard prison printers. You're welcome to print as many copies as you need for distribution within your establishment.

How can I connect with other prison chaplains?

We're building a network to help chaplains support one another. Contact us to be added to our chaplaincy mailing list, where we share resources, prayer requests, and opportunities for connection. We also support the work of official bodies like the Prison Service Chaplaincy and the Church of England's Prison Advisor.

For Victims of Crime

Why do you support prisoners? What about victims?

We believe in restorative justice and the healing power of faith for everyone affected by crime—including victims. Supporting prisoners in their rehabilitation actually helps prevent future victims by reducing reoffending.

We also provide prayer resources for victims and their families, and we're deeply committed to supporting those who have been harmed. Crime creates many victims, including the families of offenders themselves.

Where can I find support as a victim of crime?

Victim Support provides free, confidential support to anyone affected by crime. If you've been affected by a specific type of crime, there are also specialist organisations that can help. Our prayer resources may also offer comfort during this difficult time.

Technical Questions

How do you protect my privacy?

We take privacy extremely seriously, especially given the sensitive nature of our work. We don't track visitors, we encrypt all stored data, and we never share personal information with third parties. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.

Can I use your site offline?

Yes! Our website works offline once you've visited it. You can also download printable PDFs of our prayer resources for use without internet access. On mobile devices, you can add the site to your home screen for app-like access.
